Hosting Trend: Sculpted Butter

Hosting Trend: Sculpted Butter

I have been seeing this everywhere lately. It feels like we have moved on from whipped butter towers a la Atelier September into something more sculptural, cheeky and a bit fun. But with butter still at the centre (in its rightful place).

From sculpted butter bears spotted at Sofia Richie Grainge's baby shower to butter party favours made by hosting guru Laura Jackson (@iamlaurajackson) to Hannah Kleeberg of @herrlich.dining sporting a giant trophy made of butter trophy dressed head to toe in Chanel, this trend has well and truly arrived.

What is it about sculpted butter that makes us go 'woooahhhh'? Is it that it's so temporary? Subject to melt at any minute hence a short lived delight? Or maybe it's as simple as nostalgia from childhood memories of butter sculptures at the buffet style restaurants that were the ultimate kid treat (Sizzler, Valentine's anyone?).

The easiest way to recreate this at home is to do a cute little moulded butter for each place setting at the table. Find a mould (you could use a Madeleine mould, or something like this https://www.spotlightstores.com/party/baking-chocolate-making/cake-tins-bakeware/silicone-baking-moulds/sprinks-fondant-paste-silicone-sea-shell-moulds/) and fill with some room temperature butter. Once in the mould, freeze until solid. To remove from the moulds, just pop them out if using silicone or if they are being stubborn, warm the back of the mould a little in the palm of your hand first. Pop them out and put onto little dishes or side plates at your dinner party.

Easy but very cute.
